Eyelet Skirt Refashion: Dress or Blouse?

Since adding “refashioned” looks to our shop, we’ve been continuously planning and searching for more great new styles! I find myself thrift shopping at least once a week, trying to find those diamonds in the rough– pieces that have quality fabric, a good skeleton, and loads of potential! Last week while I was searching for such treasure, I found this gorgeous eyelet scalloped skirt. Immediately my mind started swirling with all the possibilities. Unfortunately, we just can’t make up our minds so we thought we leave it up to you to decide.

Eyelet Skirt Refashion (Dress or Blouse?) | Preciously Paired

We love the idea of summery dress that is versatile and easy to wear, while still giving you all the feminine details with the beautiful scalloped edges. Or, you all know how we love versatility in our wardrobe, so we thought a pretty blouse would be just the thing! You could pair it with pants or a skirt, and layer it with different pieces to wear year-round.

So what’s your vote; dress or blouse?

We’d love your feedback!

Color Block Maxi Skirt Style Inspiration

Today Sara and I put together some outfit inspirations featuring our Color Block Maxi Skirt. I’ve mentioned this a couple times now, but this skirt is seriously one of my favorite skirts! I guess it’s just me through and through; simple and comfortable. I also love versatile pieces. Sara taught me the importance of having these kinds of pieces in your wardrobe through her Wardrobe Basic’s series.  So take a look at some similar outfit inspirations for an everyday, casual look to a date night look. We feel these are outfits that are fresh and trendy yet simple enough for anyone to pull off without feeling like you have to go shopping. I guess it’s always nice to have an excuse though right?

For our casual look I just had to pair this skirt with a graphic tee. Now that I’ve found my way into the world of graphic tees I can’t get enough and I may wear them a little too much if that is possible. My favorite tees right now are from Sweet T’s Design. I have two including this “Hello Weekend” tee and they are SO soft and comfortable yet at the same time I don’t feel like I’m wearing some old, basic t-shirt.

To dress things up a little, we love the idea of a loose blouse with a structured jacket or blazer; add in a high wedged sandal and you’re set for a night on the town!

Do you see yourself wearing either of these looks?

The Inspiration Behind Our Shop

In a recent post, I expressed how I was trying to design a home where everyone in my family could feel comfortable and appreciate the style; mainly my husband. He’s not a huge vintage fan in the same sense that I am, so I’ve had to try and explore other styles we can both love and agree on. That’s why starting this blog and shop with Sara has been so fun! It’s a space that’s just for us to create things that can be white, bright, and have that classic vintage style we love, but refreshed for a modern feel.

When it comes to designing clothes we definitely turn to those classic designs for inspiration. There is nothing more flattering and feminine then a pleated midi skirt, or a high weighted a-line. It’s obviously why these piece have lasted through all the other fashion eras.  Also, it’s hard to love vintage and not love floral!  We just love how it continues to add to the light soft feel of modern vintage, which is why we had to incorporate some floral into some new pieces for our shop!

Preciously Paired Shop Sneak Peak: Clothes for the everyday woman

Shop Update: Clothing for the Everyday Woman {Plus a Sneak Peak}

During my first trimester of pregnancy, I literally sat on the couch and did nothing but the bare minimum of what life, and taking care of a toddler, required of me. However, all that sitting around did give me a lot of time to ponder and reflect on a lot of things– our shop especially.

Moment of truth:

The color block skirt holds such a special place in my heart as it is the first design I drew up and saw through to production. It is beautiful product, and I feel in awe at the wonderful reviews it has received by the many who have purchased it.

However, in the midst of all the time I had to ponder and reflect (when I wasn’t sleeping or feeling absolutely miserable) I started asking myself if it were someone else selling the color block skirt, would I buy it? As much as I would wish I could, being a stay-at-home mother of 1, soon to be 2, and a wife seeing her husband through graduate school on a modest income, I can honestly say that at this point in my life I would not.

In making this discovery, I suddenly realized that I have been largely overlooking the many other woman out there who are in a situation similar to my own—great admirers of beautiful things, but without the means to justify actually purchasing them.

This got me to thinking of how we could create a great product like the color block skirt for the everyday woman, that is also affordable.

In answer to this question we’d like to announce that starting in March (in addition to our custom listings) we will be selling ready-made, refashioned clothing. In our shop you will now find fashionable clothing for an affordable price, which have been recycled from thrifted clothes and fabrics. If you’ve been a follower of our blog, you’ve probably noticed that I have a great passion for refashioning old clothes into something new and modern. Please note that just because we are now selling refashioned clothing does not mean that we sacrifice the quality of our garments.

We already have a great selection of clothes waiting to go up in the shop and wanted to give you all a little sneak peak! I’m telling you guys, we have literally had to restrain ourselves from keeping these adorable clothes all for ourselves! We absolutely love what we’ve created and know you will too!

Let’s Talk Home Decor

One of our main goals with keeping up on the blog is for our friends and followers to get to know us better and get a glimpse into the everyday life besides just our latest products, which we actually have some more coming to the shop soon! Stay tuned!

But today I want to switch gears from fashion and sewing and talk a little bit about another personal project of mine I have going on; more on the interior design side. When my husband and I  bought our house I was really excited to have a place that was actually mine that I could do whatever  I wanted with. Our first “big” project was giving our guest bathroom a makeover. After that project and settling into our house more, it hit me that I don’t even really know what I want in my house and realized that interior design was a LOT harder then I thought it was going to be. Maybe it’s because I’m such a perfectionist and I like to get things perfect the first time. Whatever the reason, I was not enjoying myself and was constantly second guessing my choices. The problem was not having things I liked. I’ve seen so many spaces on pinterest, the HGTV channel and in friends homes that I saw and LOVED. In fact I appreciate so many different things and styles that I guess the real problem I was having was narrowing it down to what style I saw for not only myself in but my family living in.

For example, we all know that white anything; furniture, kitchens, walls etc, is all the craze right now and I’m right on board with that craze when I see a beautiful, bright room with white couches or cabinets. However, at the same time something made me feel uneasy about it. If it was just me I could totally see myself in a little “all white” cottage, snuggling up on my white couch with a good book but having kids and a husband who love all things outdoors I could see myself going crazy trying to get them to keep all that stuff clean. Let’s be honest, I can barely keep up with all the house cleaning as it is and having white things that just accentuate the dirtiness even more. Not to mention, I have the worst track record of getting stains out of things, needless to say,  I would be a stressed out mess.

I think I’ve finally come to terms with not needing to join the latest fad to have a bright and welcoming home to live in, especially, not when I know I would always be stressing out about keeping it all clean and looking good. (FYI I’m a stresser. I stress about lots of things and mostly little, insignificant things so I don’t need one more thing to make me more so!) I also realized that I don’t need my house to look super styled up and look straight out of a magazine for it to make me happy living in it.

So now that that’s out of the way…We’re starting our first, big project that involves an actual contractor! Another thing which I’ve come to terms with is that I don’t need to feel like I need to do everything myself just because I admire people that can. I’m learning that on certain things I don’t mind calling in an expert and letting them do what they do best or just buying something instead of taking that amount of time to do it myself. Boy have I learned quite a lot in the first year of home ownership! I still won’t say I 100% know what I want and what style I am looking for but I am starting to feel a little more comfortable about the choices I make and what is going to work best for my whole family while still loving it!

Let’s finally get to the project…our family room.

IMG_1680

Besides some basic room updates like carpet and baseboard we’re mostly focusing on one wall of the family room that has the fireplaces. This wall with the fireplace is really the best wall for a TV but with the mantel there and all the stone we haven’t been able to do that. We figured why not make it more functional for us and in a way that suites us too. So of course the first, necessary step for those needing a nudge in coming up with ideas was jumping on Pinterest to look for some inspiration. I came across this photo that fit almost perfectly with what seemed like a right fit for us.

eae3dc3cc7e3216ef3f7f1a1ffe3c3b8

So far it’s a really slow process. After weeks of trying, we finally got our contractor to come over and talk details with us. We’re slowly getting the ball rolling and I’m hoping by the end of spring we get this finished and under budget…talking like a true novice at home projects haha! I will keep you posted on the updates!

What style or feel have you chosen for your home? Did you struggle with coming up with it? Any advice?

XOXO,

Hanna

DIY Girl’s Graphic Sweater: Valentines Outfit Inspiration

In case you missed it, the other day I posted about a DIY graphic tee I did in lou of Valentines day which I paired with our Color Block Party skirt. Today I’m sharing a second graphic tee that that I did, but this time I tried to do something a little different. Instead of just painting words onto a shirt I decided to start with a sweater and use a single-crocheted, chain of yarn and sewed that to the shirt in the form of a word. I made this sweater for my daughter but I think it would be equally cute in adult form.

DIY "Lovely" Sweater

So for another quick “how-to” here are the thing you’ll need for this simple project.

Supplies

– sweater/sweatshirt

-Yarn

– Crochet hook

– Pins

– Needle and thread

– Beads (optional)

IMG_6135IMG_6139

I wanted to give the shirt a little more interest so I decided to start by stringing some beads onto my yarn before I turned it into a chain. This is all up to what you want to do, but I’ll still let you know exactly what I did. I single-crocheted 8 times and then did a bead and just repeated until I had a chain long enough to form the word I wanted. Once I had my chain finished and after working in the ends I formed the word I wanted with it on my shirt. When I had it the way I wanted it I pinned it to the shirt and then sewed it on with my needle and thread. See…easy peasy!

The next step was obviously to pair it with her Color Block Party skirt. I’ll dress Mia in pants and by the end of the day she is either in this skirt or her tutu. Needless to say, she LOVES this skirt, so you all know what she will be wearing this Valentines Day.

DIY Girl's Graphic Sweater

IMG_6174IMG_6181IMG_6189There you have it, my 2 diy graphic tops perfect for Valentines and all the days after. I think after doing these shirts I’m definitely hooked on graphic tees and now want a tone. Anyone have a fav they would like to point me in the direction of getting?

XOXO,

Hanna
