Feature: Custom Bridesmaid Skirts

I’m so excited to finally show off one of the bigger projects I completely this year! When we first launched the Color Block Party Skirts in our shop last August we got multiple comments about how they would make great bridesmaid skirts. Instantly we were like, “Of course! Why didn’t we think of that?” Needless to say, we absolutely loved the idea, and not long after listing the Custom Bridesmaid Skirts in our shop we got our first order! It was such a joy to work with this lovely bride and her bridesmaids, and I must say, they all look stunning in their wedding attire! It has been such an honor to take part in helping make a bride’s vision for her wedding day become a reality, and we cannot wait to do more bridesmaid skirt orders in the future!

Ok I’m freaking out right now that my baby girl is going to turn three next month! Oh, and that I’m currently six months pregnant with a nice round baby bump… unlike the pictures falsely portray above. We did this fun little mommy/daughter shoot last November, and with all the craziness of the holidays and the first trimester sickness, it got tucked away and forgotten. I came across them the other day and thought all this cuteness needed to be shared!

Also, I’ve kind of developed a new found love for our color block party skirts. Not that I ever stopped loving them, it’s just with all the projects and new additions we’ve added to our shop they too got tucked away like these pictures. In fact, I hadn’t even sewn up a color block skirt since December until just recently. Now I’ve sewn over ten color block skirt in the past three weeks, and with each one I fall more in love. The “in love” kind of sense where I pour my heart and soul into every stitch to make each skirt perfect, then get little butterflies in my stomach once I ship one off to it’s owner in anticipating their excitement once it arrives. It’s a sometimes stressful, yet thrilling and rewarding kind of love– sort of like being a mom.

As some of you may remember, I quite my daytime job last June to be able to stay at home with this little girl and to pursue some of my other dreams. It was an adjustment at first, but I love it! …Ok lets be real, some days I feel like I might be going crazy. Being a mom can be really hard, then add being a housekeeper, cook, and business owner (and pregnant) on top of that and it is like insanity, but I still LOVE it! Like I said, sometimes stressful, yet ever so rewarding.

As for these lovely skirts, both are available in our shop for custom orders! Mother’s Day is coming up, and how cute would matching mother-daughter skirts be?!

XOXO,

Sara

DIY Girl’s Graphic Sweater: Valentines Outfit Inspiration

In case you missed it, the other day I posted about a DIY graphic tee I did in lou of Valentines day which I paired with our Color Block Party skirt. Today I’m sharing a second graphic tee that that I did, but this time I tried to do something a little different. Instead of just painting words onto a shirt I decided to start with a sweater and use a single-crocheted, chain of yarn and sewed that to the shirt in the form of a word. I made this sweater for my daughter but I think it would be equally cute in adult form.

DIY "Lovely" Sweater

So for another quick “how-to” here are the thing you’ll need for this simple project.

Supplies

– sweater/sweatshirt

-Yarn

– Crochet hook

– Pins

– Needle and thread

– Beads (optional)

I wanted to give the shirt a little more interest so I decided to start by stringing some beads onto my yarn before I turned it into a chain. This is all up to what you want to do, but I’ll still let you know exactly what I did. I single-crocheted 8 times and then did a bead and just repeated until I had a chain long enough to form the word I wanted. Once I had my chain finished and after working in the ends I formed the word I wanted with it on my shirt. When I had it the way I wanted it I pinned it to the shirt and then sewed it on with my needle and thread. See…easy peasy!

The next step was obviously to pair it with her Color Block Party skirt. I’ll dress Mia in pants and by the end of the day she is either in this skirt or her tutu. Needless to say, she LOVES this skirt, so you all know what she will be wearing this Valentines Day.

IMG_6174IMG_6181IMG_6189There you have it, my 2 diy graphic tops perfect for Valentines and all the days after. I think after doing these shirts I’m definitely hooked on graphic tees and now want a tone. Anyone have a fav they would like to point me in the direction of getting?

XOXO,

Hanna

DIY Valentine Graphic Tee | Preciously Paired

Valentines Outfit Inspiration with DIY Graphic Tee

As we get further into the new year, the more “crafty” I seem to get after taking a long break over the holidays. So why not jump back on the bandwagon with some easy diy shirts just in time for Valentines day? If you haven’t noticed yet, graphic tees are all the rage…meaning I don’t have one. Funny enough, I always seem to be the last one on the fashion trend compared to Sara; not necessarily because I’m trying to “stick it to the man” or in this case “fashionistas”, but because I have to see something enough times and on enough people before I’ll get brave and do it myself. That’s right, I’m a fashion follower, not starter and I’m definitely ok with that. Anyway, I’m slowly getting on the graphic tee trend, and have even gone as far as whipping up a few different styles that you can make yourself. They are both ridiculously easy and absolutely possible to make before Valentines Day. The best part about these Valentine inspired tees is that it is a style you can continue on wearing all year long!

DIY Graphic Tee | Valentine's Day Inspired | Color Block Party Skirt

Today I’m sharing our women’s Valentines outfit inspiration featuring both one of the diy graphic tees I made, and our classic Color Block Party skirt. But first, here is a quick tutorial on the shirt.

Supplies:

-Shirt

-Cardstock

-X-acto knife

– Fabric Paint and foam brush

– Adhesive Spray

To start, I grabbed a long sleeves tee from Old Navy for $5. I love Old Navy! It was either the best thing or the worst thing I ever did to get an Old Navy card. Next, I decided I wanted to do something a little different than your average “Love” tee so I did the next best thing and did the same word in a different langue; “l’amour which is French for “love”. I just typed the word on a blank document on the computer using a font called “Lainie Day”. I printed that out on cardstock and cut the word out with an x-acto knife to use as my stencil. Once that was done I sprayed the back of the stencil with adhesive spray and placed it on my shirt that was laid out flat with a piece of cardboard placed inside the shirt. Last step is to fill in your word stencil with a couple coats of fabric paint, and once that is dry peel off the paper and you’ll officially be ready to join the fashion club of graphic tees.

Along with getting my craft on, I’ve also started taking more pictures again which has always been a hobby of mine.  So doing this shoot with our best friend Ashly, who agreed to be my last minute model, was nothing less than fun! We just love this girl; from her gorgeous face, to her caring personality, and everything in between!

Color Block Party Skirts for Girls: Holiday Edition

Get in the Christmas Spirit with Our Color Block Party Skirts for Girls

Sara and I decided to try something new and try making some video’s to show off our Color Block Party skirts. We love the idea of you being able to see our skirts in action and getting to see and know us a little more too!

I love doing fun and creative projects with my girls that help inspire pretend play so for this first video I decided to share a fun idea that does just that while also helping get the kids in the Christmas spirit. Using things from our our house my girls and I made Santa’s sleigh with reindeer. It’s super easy and my girls had a fun time imagining that they were delivering presents to all the kids on Christmas.

Jessica, the creator of these cute masks, has a huge variety to choose from and they are a great gift for the kids! While your at it make sure to also check our shop! We’re going to be having some great sale’s on our skirts so now is your chance to get one!

What are some fun activities or projects you like to do with your kids during the holidays?

More Tea?

The kind of art I always seem to admire are one’s that depict an artist’s playful take on children and their vivid imaginations and ability to pretend. I love that reality doesn’t exist for children and that they can create and be anything they want to be all with just the power of their thoughts and imaginations. I love that art can capture that and that like child’s imaginations it also tends to have no bounds. An artist can escape reality and create anything they imagine. Sadly I don’t have that direct talent to do it myself, but luckily I always had another half to do that for me. Sara has been my outlet when it comes to creating art that showed things we would imagine up or a scene from our favorite books.

Since Sara and I have brought our love of illustrating to our shop we’ve been brainstorming prints we’d like to add along with our custom illustrated portraits. Our new Tea Party print is our simple take on something that almost every girl has memories of doing; pretend tea parties. Something about dressing up, saying proper and polite phrases and sipping on tea cups with pinkies up is an imaginary scenario worth playing over and over.
