More Tea?

The kind of art I always seem to admire are one’s that depict an artist’s playful take on children and their vivid imaginations and ability to pretend. I love that reality doesn’t exist for children and that they can create and be anything they want to be all with just the power of their thoughts and imaginations. I love that art can capture that and that like child’s imaginations it also tends to have no bounds. An artist can escape reality and create anything they imagine. Sadly I don’t have that direct talent to do it myself, but luckily I always had another half to do that for me. Sara has been my outlet when it comes to creating art that showed things we would imagine up or a scene from our favorite books.

Since Sara and I have brought our love of illustrating to our shop we’ve been brainstorming prints we’d like to add along with our custom illustrated portraits. Our new Tea Party print is our simple take on something that almost every girl has memories of doing; pretend tea parties. Something about dressing up, saying proper and polite phrases and sipping on tea cups with pinkies up is an imaginary scenario worth playing over and over.

New Halloween Print in Shop!

We’re one month into our new school routine, the leaves are changing, my apple harvest scent is plugged in and I spent the day putting up my fall/Halloween decorations; life is very good! Mia has been loving school and her dance class. She is quite our little social bug. On the other hand Livy and I are loving the time we get to spend in the morning just the two of us and I have been having a blast planning with Sara the future shop additions and  changes! Boy, are there changes coming!

Halloween Illustration6_edited-1

The latest shop addition is this adorable Halloween print. We wanted to create something that was family friendly. With toddlers of our own who have already started the endless talk of what to be for Halloween this seemed to be the perfect fit.

To add this 8×10 print to your Halloween decor just go to our shop and since it’s our first print and officially Halloween season you can get this print for just $3 for the next week!

Now, for those of you who like to see things in an actual setting, take a look at what a great addition it made to my entryway table in my front room! Along with the Halloween print I decided to get a little crafty and do my own spider web canvas art and fabric garland. I am now officially ready to enjoy October!

Once again, thank you all for your support, comments, following and purchases! Sara and I are having so much fun with the new addition of custom illustrations to our shop and now for originally illustrated prints. We have so many ideas for future prints as well. We’d also love any ideas or requests for different kinds of prints from our lovely followers!

Custom Illustrated Portraits | Preciously Paired

As some of you may remember from my colorblock skirt sketches, I’ve been testing my hand at illustration. I’ve always loved drawing. I guess you could say it’s my hidden talent, like all you shower singers. Drawing has always been a therapeutic outlet for me, and with custom portraits making a trendy comeback I feel like it is something I can share that others may appreciate and enjoy. It’s really a win win situation! Honestly the idea of sharing my drawings is super scary to me. I felt comfortable being a “closet artist” (a very novice artist at that), and I intended to keep it that way. However, Hanna is always seeing more potential in me than I ever see in myself and is constantly challenging me to push out of my comfort zones. So when we got a wedding announcement for one of our cousins not too long ago, Hanna thought it would be a great idea to put together a custom portrait for them… and so began me bursting out of my comfort zone.

Now we have decided to add custom illustrations as part of our little shop! Starting today you can order a custom portrait for yourself, or as the perfect personalized gift! I do the drawing, then send it over to Hanna to make into a beautiful image that can be printed right from your home computer in  minutes! Frame it, have it printed on a canvas, or even uses it to create this year’s holiday greeting cards! Visit our shop for more information on how to order your custom illustration!

Here is the little look at the process of creating this lovely portrait we did for our cousin and his adorable new wife. And below is one we made of my little family. This picture is from a few years back, taken by Hanna. I always have her take our family pictures. I love her work!

Hard to believe that this is us isn’t it?! We were all trying out different hair dos then. Would you believe that my hair line completely receded after having my baby! I had two giant bald patches right in front for months… hence the bangs! You’ll be glad to know that they have since grown back.

{Tour Through Blogland} The Twins Behind the Blog

We’ve been invited by the lovely and talented Amber Tsyl from the Restless Arrow to participant in the Tour Through Blogland series.. It’s been so fun reading some of our favorite blogger’s stories and meeting new bloggers through the process. Amber is one of those bloggers that we’ve loved getting to know more! Her and her little family are simply the cutest, and her home is gorgeous! Seriously go check it out!

Just look at her beautiful kitchen… built from scratch and on a budget!

As for us, we are thrill to be part of this series as it gives you (our readers) a glance at who we are, what we’re all about, why we blog, and what big ideas we’re working on next!

Why do we write and create what we do?

This blog was originally started when we moved over 800 miles away from each other and we wanted to have something to keep us close. Blogging was a way to share our projects and experiences with each other as well as with others. We came to realize that we want to let other mothers, women, wives and whoever else know that we’re just another couple of women out there going through the same struggles and experiences. We also decided that while we’re going through the ups and downs of life, there were things we could do to make it beautiful and inspiring!

How does our writing/creative process work?
Writing doesn’t seem to come easy for either one of us. In fact, we often call each other asking for help gathering our thoughts/feelings to make a post into something that others would want to read and could relate to. I guess you could say a lot of our creative process comes from each other, and the countless hours we talk on the phone each week. We push each other to step outside of our comfort zones, take some risks and try new things! The other part comes from our own life experiences, and also from things that have inspired us. We both live life with our eyes open to find inspiring and beautiful things that we then try to recreate and make it our own.

How does our work differ from others in its genre?

Honestly, we’re not really even sure what our genre is quite yet! Since we started our blog less than a year ago we’ve blogged about a number of things (mostly pertaining to diy projects and sewing) and now we have a shop selling skirts! What really sets our blog apart is our unique partnership. If you can’t tell from our picture in the top right hand corner of our blog, we’re twins. When we’re together the sky is the limit. We push and inspire each other to try our best and give each other courage to try things we’ve never done before. I guess that is why we’ve tried our hand at so many different things.

What are we working on?

As many of you know, we just opened our shop selling our first line of Colorblock Party skirts… eek! Since opening our shop just 3 weeks ago, that is where much of our attention and energy has been spent when it comes to our blog. Besides our Colorblock Party skirts, we have many  more plans for growing and expanding our shop, some of which are in the works right now! While our shop is still quite new, it has helped us realize where our true passion lies. We love designing, creating, and sharing fun and useful ideas, and pushing ourselves and our talents by trying new things– our shop really allows us to do that. Because of this, we’ve decided to switch gears with our blog and focus more on our shop at the present time. There is no doubt that we love blogging and plan on continuing it, but it is now taking a “behind-the-scenes” role.

On the blog we will share our personal journeys as mother, wives, homemakers, and now shop owners. But don’t worry, you can still expect to see awesome diy projects and easy sewing tutorials as these are very much apart of our daily lives. Also be sure to keep an eye on our shop as there will be some new additions very soon!

Custom Bridesmaids Color Block Skirts

When Sara and I get together we come up with some pretty crazy and ambitious ideas. Everyone else around us…our husbands included sometimes give us the “you guys are crazy” look but even when we were young we felt like we could do anything together. Aside from starting this blog and a shop, this wedding shoot was another one of those things.

We had a few comments from people after seeing the Color Block Party Skirt that they would make great skirts for bridesmaids. Of course since then we could not get the thought out of our heads and wanted to really let people see for themselves that in fact they are perfect for just that! I’m mean I would pretty much love whoever gave me this skirt to wear as a bridesmaid. Am I right?! So over a weekend, while the husbands where gone fishing and we were watching three kids we found a bride, bridesmaids, a wedding dress, made flower crowns and two more skirts and found the perfect location for a staged wedding shoot. I’m sure now you’re getting the picture of how crazy we can be! However, I must say that it was a blast and I don’t regret doing it for a minute! The pictures turned out even better then we could have hoped and this would not have been possible without these 5 lovely ladies who over looked our craziness and helped out by being our last minute models!

Features: The Color Block Party Skirt

Since starting this blog, putting my work out there for the whole world to see may be one of the hardest things I’ve ever done! It’s hard opening myself up to criticism, judgement, and possibly even failure. I wish I could say that I don’t have doubts and fears, but then I wouldn’t be human. Creating the Color Block Party Skirt and now opening our shop has been it’s own whirlwind of doubts and fears. In fact, both of which I’ve experience today! But, there is something that keeps pushing me along day after day. Maybe it’s my fear of failing. Maybe it’s the wonderful support from our friends, family, fellow bloggers, and readers. Or perhaps it is me believing in myself that I can do it. One thing that I am confident of is that I could not have achieved any of this by myself!

There are many wonderful people who have made our blog and shop what it is thus far, including you reading this right now! Today I’d also like to highlight a few fashionistas who have been a great support in helping us launch our Color Block Party Skirts. The Color Block Party Skirt can be worn on many different shapes and sizes, and can be styled in many different ways. Here are three beautiful ladies to prove it!

Kelsey Bang

Meet Kelsey from Kelsey Bang! Her and her husband blog together about their personal style. I love the chic retro look that Kelsey has created with our light blue and white Color Block Party Skirt!

Kacie's Kloset

Kacie from Kacie’s Kloset pairs a simple ballet tee with our rose and white Color Block Party Skirt for a modern, edgy ballerina feel.

Bella

And today on Bella Blog, Elisabeth in featuring our rose and navy Color Block Party Skirt… would you believe she is 17 weeks pregnant!

Gingham and Color Blocking

I have a confession to make… I’ve missed you guys! My mind has been everywhere  but the blog the last couple of weeks and it feels nice to be sitting down again to share with you some of the greatest and latest news. For those of you who have been following along, you may remember me saying that I quit my day job last month to pursue my dream of dressmaking. For the past couple of months I’ve spent hours sewing and agonizing over making my first design something that could be loved by all– complete with pockets, an exposed zipper, and four different color options.

DSC_0641

DSC_0651

I first came up with the idea to make the Color Block Party Skirt several years ago when I decided to take up sewing again. I found a gathered skirt tutorial for beginners that I wanted to try, but I couldn’t choose between two different colors of fabric so I decided to use both. I’ve since made many upgrades to the original color block skirt to create a classic, quality product. It has become one of my favorite skirts to wear, as the sturdy waistband accentuates the smallest part of me and hides all my problem areas. It is comfortable, breathable, and I now wonder how I  ever went without pockets in a skirt before– they’re genius and absolutely necessary!

With only two more weeks before the grand opening of our shop, I’m both excited and anxious. I put my heart and soul into each and every skirt I make and will never get enough of seeing the excitement of customers’ faces when they try one on. None of this would be possible without the help and support from my loving husband, family and friends. So mark your calendars, because on August 11th you will finally have the chance to own your very own, custom made, Color Block Party Skirt!

Also, some of you may have noticed that we’ve recently partnered up with several other bloggers as hosts for the “Your Designs This Time” linky party, which we will co-host every Monday on the blog from now on. We’ve already met some wonderful people and seen so many inspiring ideas! If you didn’t get a chance to see this week’s linky party I recommend hopping on over to join in the fun!
